The year 2025 <\/strong>was spent by the Unitruck<\/em> team in close cooperation with forestry companies, listening to their experience, expectations, and practical needs when planning their daily workhorses \u2013 timber trucks<\/strong>. These discussions formed the foundation for solutions that combine strength, safety, and long-term durability.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This intensive planning process culminated in January 2026 with the first Unitruck-designed aluminum timber truck superstructure, developed based on real operational requirements in Latvian forests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Volvo FH500 Log Truck with a Custom-Built Body<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In accordance with the requirements of \u010ciekuri NH<\/strong>, a Volvo FH500 timber truck <\/strong>chassis was equipped for this project. The chassis delivery was carried out in cooperation with Volvo Group Truck Center Valmiera<\/strong>, which provided professional customer consultation and ensured precise chassis specification tailored to the intended application. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Based on the customer\u2019s needs, detailed body planning and consultations were conducted, during which the most optimal technical solutions for the timber truck superstructure<\/strong> were selected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aluminum Body Structure \u2013 Lightweight Yet Exceptionally Strong<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The base structure of the body consists of 190 mm thick aluminum longitudinal beams<\/strong>, securely mounted to the chassis frame. Structural strength is ensured by: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  • 10 aluminum cross members,<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • 4 steel fixation cross braces,<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Flexible connections at the front of the frame, protecting the body against torsional stress.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Additionally, elastic brackets for pipe fixation <\/strong>are installed beneath the plywood floor, improving service life and reducing load concentration within the structure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    For the crane installation, a high-strength steel console<\/strong> is used, ensuring stable, safe, and precise operation of the timber truck crane<\/strong>, even under demanding working conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    JW-Tec Timber bunks and Pneumatic Load Securing<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The timber truck is equipped with JW-Tec aluminum timber bunks<\/strong> from a German manufacturer, featuring steel bases. Their 7-ton load capacity <\/strong>ensures safe and reliable timber transportation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Both the timber truck and the trailer are additionally equipped with JW-Tec pneumatic load tensioners<\/strong>, providing automatic load securing even while driving<\/strong>, significantly increasing road safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Kesla Crane for Professional Forestry Operations<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The body configuration is complemented by a Kesla 2209ST crane from the Finnish manufacturer<\/strong>, featuring a premium-class cab<\/strong>. According to customer requirements, the crane is equipped with: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

      \n
    • an autonomous heating system,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • mechanical control levers,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • an LS hydraulic system.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      The crane delivers 9 tonne-meters of lifting power<\/strong>, which, combined with the Kesla ProG46 grapple<\/strong>, ensures efficient, precise, and timber-grade-appropriate operation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Secure Coupling and Complete Timber Truck Combination<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

      A TAV pneumatic coupling<\/strong> from a Finnish manufacturer with automatic lubrication has been installed, ensuring convenient and, most importantly, safe trailer coupling<\/strong> to the chassis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      For a complete log truck combination, the customer selected a N\u00e4rko Ab three-axle timber trailer<\/strong> equipped with SAF disc brakes.<\/strong> The high-strength steel frame and well-engineered trailer configuration ensure exceptional safety and durability,<\/strong> even in the most demanding forestry conditions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

      The trailer frame length in this configuration is 6,900 mm, allowing convenient load positioning while remaining within the maximum permitted total combination length in Latvia \u2013 18,750 mm.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Both the timber truck and the trailer are equipped with the ZF SCALAR telematics system<\/strong>, providing the customer with full, real-time control of the vehicle combination<\/strong>. The system allows real-time monitoring of the location of both the timber truck and trailer<\/strong>, as well as key technical parameters such as tire pressure, load weight, tire operating temperature, and remaining brake disc wear<\/strong>, thereby improving operational safety, efficiency, and overall equipment lifespan. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
